In 2016 a 50 Megawatt solar farm was activated at Drayton Manor Farm, on land previously used by DEFRA for animal research. One of the largest solar farms in England, it covers 96 hectares with 200,000 solar panels and generates enough energy to power more than 14,000 homes.
Following a public exhibition, the planning application was recommended for approval and granted by the planning committee unanimously.
